We Powered Up Smart Home Savings For Iot Devices
Seisan worked directly with a SmartHome IoT provider to develop a comprehensive ecosystem that brings together user enrollment, device connectivity, cloud automation and reporting.
Objective
Provide an IoT solution that tracks user enrollment, devices and usage and report on activity within a single application set.
Solution
Seisan developed a desktop and cross-platform mobile IoT ecosystem that tracked device information in real- time through a series of custom built monitoring and reporting tools.
The SmartHome IoT Solution platform was designed as an all-in-one ecosystem that seamlessly integrates user onboarding, device integration, cloud-based automation, and advanced analytics within a single, cohesive framework.
The SmartHome IoT Solution platform was designed as an all-in-one ecosystem that seamlessly integrates user onboarding, device integration, cloud-based automation, and advanced analytics within a single, cohesive framework.
Project Overview
The Smart IoT Solution platform was built as a comprehensive ecosystem that brings together user enrollment, device connectivity, cloud automation, and reporting under one unified architecture.
Users begin with the React-based web portal, which simplifies onboarding and program education. After enrolling, homeowners transition to the mobile app, where they authenticate their SmartThings account via OAuth, granting permission for the platform to read device lists and execute authorized control routines.
Behind the scenes, the system is powered by an AWS-hosted, Docker-containerized Node.js backend, enabling a highly scalable event automation engine. These services communicate with SmartThings APIs to gather device state, evaluate energy-saving opportunities, and issue control commands during defined conservation windows.
The automation engine is supported by an AWS RDS PostgreSQL database, which maintains device inventories, user profiles, OAuth tokens, automation rules, and savings event logs. This structure ensures accurate data modeling and fast response times across the platform.
For program administrators, Seisan created a secure, cloud-based management portal that surfaces real-time analytics on user participation, automation events, and total estimated electricity savings. This enables Smart IoT Solution to validate program performance, adhere to compliance requirements, and shhare meaningful results with their utility partners.

Results
The platform delivered immediate value to both consumers and program administrators.
Homeowners experienced:
- Frictionless enrollment into Energy Savings Club
- Clear visibility of their connected devices and automations
- Confidence and trust in the automation routines controlling their home
- Actual energy savings through coordinated adjustments to HVAC, lighting, and appliance behaviors
Administrators benefited from:
- Centralized operational visibility across the entire user base
- Accurate device usage analytics and energy-savings measurements
- Automated reporting tools, reducing what used to be manual, multi-system processes
- Reliable tracking of all automation actions for compliance or audit review
- A scalable cloud infrastructure ready for continued program expansion
The platform demonstrated measurable reductions in electricity usage across participating households by optimizing temperature setpoints and reducing load on lighting and appliances during targeted conservation periods.
Because the system uses clean, structured device data and cloud-native services, Smart IoT Solution is now positioned to easily extend into:
- Machine-learning insights
- Predictive event scheduling
- Utility demand-response programs
- Integration with additional smart ecosystems.
